01. Eligibility for Admission

Any person who has passed the qualifying Graduate / Post Graduate degree examination of Berhampur University or any other examination conducted by other Universities / Institutions which is recognized as equivalent thereto by Berhampur University and Bar Council of India with 45% of marks (40% marks for candidate belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) in aggregate is eligible for admission into LL.B course.

02. Qualifications for Award of Law Degree:

a) Any registered candidate who completes a regular course of study for three academic years in a college and he/she should complete six semester examinations in law, as follows:

i) The First Semester Examination in Law not earlier than the end of November of the first year of the course.

ii) The Second Semester Examination in Law not earlier than the end of April of the first year of the course.

iii) The third Semester Examination in Law not earlier than the end of November of the second year of the course.

iv) The Fourth Semester Examination in Law not earlier than the end of April of the second year of the course.

v) The Fifth Semester Examination in Law not earlier than the end of November of the third year of the course.

b) Each of the semester examination in Law shall be held once in an academic year.

c) The students who are admitted to the regular course of study for LL.B Degree shall not be permitted to take admission in or pursue any other course so long as they continue their studies for the LL.B Degree.

03. Admission to Course

a) No student shall ordinarily be admitted in to a college six weeks after the reopening of the college or the date of publication of the result of the Bachelor’s degree examination of the Berhampur University which ever is later.

Provided that in exceptional cases the Syndicate may permit a student four weeks more for admission with a late fees prescribed by the Syndicate. Provided further that when the Syndicate permits increase of seats in any class in any College, the date of the issue of this order shall be regarded as the date of reopening of the college of the publication of the result as the case may be.

Provided further that any students who passes a Post Graduate examination of this University & thus acquires eligibility for taking admission in Law course as per the stipulation of the Bar Council of India may also be permitted to take admission in the law Couse within fourteen days from the date of publication of results of the examinations and with a late fees prescribed by the Syndicate for taking admission within two weeks more.

b) Admission to Inter & Final Law course: Admission to Inter & Final Law (third semester or fifth semester as the case may be) shall be completed within four weeks after reopening of the College or further two weeks with a late fee of Rs. 100/- irrespective of publication of results of preceding examinations.

04. Conditions for Admission to Examination

a) A candidate for the Degree of Bachelor of Law shall be required to pass the following examinations:

i) Preliminary Law consisting of the First and Second Semester Examination.

ii) Intermediate law consisting of the Third and Fourth Semester examination and

iii) Final Law consisting of the Fifth and Sixth semester examination.

b) A Candidate shall be admitted:

i) To the first semester examination in Law if he/she has prosecuted a regular course of study for not less than six months after passing the qualifying examination.

ii) To the Second Semester Examination in Law if he/she has qualified for the First Semester Examination in Law and has completed a regular course of study for not less than one academic year in the first year of the course.

iii) To the Third Semester Examination in Law if he/she has qualified for the First Semester and Second Semester in Law and has completed a regular course of study for not less than six months.

iv) To the Fourth Semester examination in Law if he/she has qualified for the First Semester, Second Semester and Third Semester in Law and has completed a regular course of study for not less than one academic year in second year of the course.

v) To the Fifth Semester in a Law if he/she has qualified the First, Second, Third and Fourth Semester Examination in Law and has completed a regular course of study for not less than six months in the third year of the course.

vi) To the Sixth Semester Examination in Law if he/she has passed the First, Second, Third, fourth and fifth Semester Examination in Law and has completed a regular course of study for not less than one academic year in the final year of the course.

vii) Unless a candidate has filled up the forms for the earlier examination he shall not be permitted to fill up the forms for the next higher semester examination.

c) A candidate who has completed the courses of studies prescribed for the (two semesters) of the first year may be admitted to both the examinations in Law.

d) A candidate who has completed the courses of studies prescribed for Preliminary (two semesters) Intermediate (two semesters) can appear first and third or second and fourth or third and fifth at a time.

e) A student who has completed the course of studies prescribed for the first and second semester examination may be admit ted to the second year of the course without previously pass in the first and second semester examination and a student who has completed the course of studies prescribed for the First, Second and the Third and Fourth Examinations may be admitted into the 3rd and 5th LL.B semester examination.

f) A candidate must complete all six semesters within eight years of his joining the LL.B course.

05. Duration of Lectures

a) In every subject in each of law course examination, provision shall ordinarily be made for at least three lectures per week and one tutorial in a fortnight and moot court wherever prescribed.

b) The duration of each lecture and tutorial class shall be of sixty minute duration.

06. Attendance

A candidate shall be considered to have completed a regular course of study for purpose of clause (a) of Regulation 2, if he/she has attended:

a) Not less than 75% of the lectures and tutorials in each subject or group of subjects included in each paper, prescribed by the college during the semester and not less than 75% of sitting of the Moot Court held during the academic year.

b) The students shall be required to put in a minimum attendance of 66% of the lectures in each of the subjects and also at tutorials and Moot Courts. Provided that in exceptional case, for reasons to be recorded and communicated to the Bar Council of India, the Syndicate may condone attendance short of those required under the regulations, if the students has attended 66% of the lectures in the aggregate for the examination.

c) The abstract of attendance of the students shall be displayed on the notice board in every month.

d) Permission to sit for the University Examinations is granted on the basis of Attendance in Lectures, tutorials and Moot Court.

07. Courses of Studies

a) The subjects and course of studies will be as may be prescribed and approved by the Academic Council from time to time.

b) For each of the six semester examinations in law, there shall be five papers each of 100 marks and of three hours duration as per the syllabus. the Viva-Voce examination, whenever, prescribed in the course and examination of case record shall be conducted by two examination of case record shall be conducted by two examiners of whom one shall be an advocate, jurist or law teacher other than the college teaching staff on the basis of records, prepared by the students. The marks obtained in the class records shall be submitted to the University separately.

08. Certificate to be produced

a) Good Conduct

b) Diligent Study

a) A candidate who has failed at any of the semester examination in Law or having been registered for the examination has failed to present himself at the examination, may be admitted to a subsequent examination on payment of prescribed fees, without further attendance at lectures.

b) If a candidate who is admitted to more than one Examination in Law at the same time passes in one and fails in the other he/she shall be admitted to any subsequent examination in which he/she has failed on payment of fees prescribed and the results of the higher examination shall be withheld in case he/she fails to pass the lower examination.

09. Eligibility for Admission to Examination

a) Students who will not be qualified/appeared in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th semester LL.B examinations, he/she can appear the 1st and 3rd semester LL.B examination during 5th semester LL.B examinations, and he/she can appear 2nd and 4th semester LL.B examinations during 6th semester LL.B examinations.

b) Students who have completed 4th and 6th semester LL.B course of studies but not qualified / appeared in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th semester LL.B examinations, he/she can appear 5th semester LL.B examinations during first and third semester LL.B examinations during second and fourth semester LL.B examinations.

c) Students those who have completed LL.B (six semesters) course of studies he/she can appear first, third examinations during first, third and fifth semester LL.B examinations and second and fourth semester LL.B examinations during second, fourth sixth semester LL.B examinations and he/she can appear 5th semester LL.B examinations during first and third semester LL.B examinations; and he/she can appear sixth semester LL.B examinations during second and fourth semester LL.B examinations.

d) A candidate who have failed at any of the semester examinations in Law, or having been registered for the examinations, may be admitted to a subsequent examinations without further attendance and lectures.

10. Examination Fees

a) The fee for admission to any of the semester examinations in Law shall be as prescribed by the Berhampur University.

b) Payment of examination fees: Payment of examination fees shall be to any of the six semester examinations in law as prescribed by Berhampur University.

c) Declaration to have passed in examinations of LL.B: In order to pass any of the semester examinations in law, a candidate must obtain not less than 33% of marks in each paper and not less than 250 marks in aggregate.

11. Question Paper

The question papers in every subjects for the degree of Bachelor of Laws Examination (1st and 2nd semester examination in Law, 3rd and 4th semester examination in law and 5th and 6th semester examination in Law) shall contain alternative question on the courses of studies prescribed by the Academic Council for the previous year examination in the subjects where the course of studies has since been altered or amended.

12. Pass Marks

In order to pass any of the semester examination in Law, a candidate must obtain in each paper not less than 33% marks and in aggregate 250 marks. A candidate obtain not less than 1800 marks in the aggregate to maximum marks of all the six semester examination taken together, shall be placed in FIRST CLASS, and the rest of the successful candidates who secure 1500 marks or more in the aggregate shall be declared to have passed in SECOND CLASS.

13. Back Paper

A candidate who failed in any semester but secured 50% marks in four papers, will be permitted to appear the paper in which he has failed as back paper. He shall be allowed to clear the back papers within two consecutive chances only failing which he shall appear all five papers in that semester again.

14. Publication of Results

As soon as possible after each examination, the Syndicate shall publish a list of successful candidates arranged in alphabetical order, but the list of successful candidates of Final Examination in Law shall be arranged in two classes, the First in order of Merit and the Second in alphabetical order.

15. Award of Degree

Each successful candidate on completing all the six semester examinations in Law shall receive with the Degree, a Diploma in the prescribed form signed by the Vice-Chancellor setting forth the class in which he/she was placed.

16. Non-Collegiate

As the Bar Council has prescribed semester system of examinations which contains four practical’s, so non-collegiate candidate appearance is not permitted.

The Lingaraj Law College ( Constituent College of Berhampur University) was established in the year 1969. The College offers teaching for both LL.B & LL.M. Courses.

a)	Any registered candidate who completes a regular course of study for three academic years in a college and he/she should complete six semester examinations in law, as follows:
	i)	The First Semester Examination in Law not earlier than the end of November of the first year of the course.
	ii)	The Second Semester Examination in Law not earlier than the end of April of the first year of the course.
	iii)	The third Semester Examination in Law not earlier than the end of November of the second year of the course.
	iv)	The Fourth Semester Examination in Law not earlier than the end of April of the second year of the course.
	v)	The Fifth Semester Examination in Law not earlier than the end of November of the third year of the course.
b)	Each of the semester examination in Law shall be held once in an academic year.
c)	The students who are admitted to the regular course of study for LL.B Degree shall not be permitted to take admission in or pursue any other course so long as they continue their studies for the LL.B Degree.

c)	Students those who have completed LL.B (six semesters) course of studies he/she can appear first, third examinations during first, third and fifth semester LL.B examinations and second and fourth semester LL.B examinations during second, fourth sixth semester LL.B examinations and he/she can appear 5th semester LL.B examinations during first and third semester LL.B examinations; and he/she can appear sixth semester LL.B examinations during second and fourth semester LL.B examinations.
d)	A candidate who have failed at any of the semester examinations in Law, or having been registered for the examinations, may be admitted to a subsequent examinations without further attendance and lectures.

	a)	The fee for admission to any of the semester examinations in Law shall be as prescribed by the Berhampur University.
