The Lingaraj Law College, A Constituent College of Berhampur University, imparts teaching for both LL.B (CBCS: 3 Year Semester pattern) and LL.M (2 Year Semester) Courses.

The nucleus of the present institution, namely Lingaraj Law College was laid, when the Khallikote College Trust Management, the promotor of higher learning and knowledge in Southern Orissa, initiated the novel attempt of opening Post Graduate classes in Khallikote College in the year 1964. Alongwith Post-Graduate Departments, Law classes too, were intrroduced and started in the Khallikote College with a Department of Law, with affiliation granted by Utkal University (Orissa). Consequent upon the establishment of Berhampur University of 2nd January 1967 at Berhampur (Ganjam) the law department along with Khallikote College became ipso facto affiliated to Berhampur University.

Another stride was affained when in 1969, the Khallikote College Managing Committee accorded the Department of Law, the status of a college and thus a distinct institution as Berhampur Law college came into being. The College, however, continued to remain under the same management.

In 1972, the Khallikote College Management transferred the Berhampur Law College to the Berhampur University and the College was renamed as LINGARAJ LAW COLLLEGE as a mark of respect and perpetuation to the memory of Late lamented Lingaraj Panigrahi, Ex-Chief Justice of Orissa High Court and the Firsts Vice-Chancellor of Berhampur University.

Post Graduate studies were initially started during the session 1983-84 and continued upto 1984-85. Thereafter, the said Department waas shifted to the Berhampur University as the P.G Dept. of Law.. The same LL.M Course was reopened in Lingaraj Law College during the session 1994-95.
